Edinburgh Airport Parking Advice – Icelandic Volcanic Eruption

Apr 23, 02:38 PM

The Icelandic volcanic eruption has made huge headlines across the world – and especially Europe – over the last week or so. This is largely due to the closure of much of Europe’s airspace, due to the huge amounts of ash in the atmosphere.

This has affected many people who were due to be flying out of or back to Edinburgh Airport in recent days. While airspace has now been reopened, people are still struggling to get back to normal. And as you would expect the car parking companies at Edinburgh Airport have also been affected by these events. Some people have been unable to arrive to park their cars because their flights had been cancelled. Others could not collect their cars because they were still stuck in another country.

Because of this many people have been wondering where they stand with regard to upset parking plans. If you were parked at Edinburgh Airport for example and you were supposed to return to collect your car five days ago, will you have to pay for those extra days when you do finally get back to your car?

The answer is that it depends on who you booked your parking with at Edinburgh Airport. Lots of different companies operate services around the terminal and beyond, although most of them have allowed customers who are stranded to stay parked there without the fear of extra charges. There are one or two companies nationwide who are making additional charges though, so you are advised to consult their website or call the company you are booked with to find out the situation in your particular case.

The same would apply if you were unable to reach the airport for your flight out of Edinburgh, due to the cancellation of all flights. Don’t assume you won’t be charged for any alterations to your travel plans; instead go to their website and read any announcements or updates there. Even if you are not charged you may still have to adjust your booking to account for your new arrival date.

If you decide to call the company you booked with at Edinburgh Airport, make sure you have your booking details ready. The person you speak to should be able to advise you on what you need to do if any action is required. This is more likely to affect those waiting to fly out of Edinburgh later than expected.
