A Grand Opening At Edinburgh Airport

Dec 11, 09:39 AM

If you regularly travel in and out of Edinburgh Airport, there will be a new sight awaiting you on your next visit. It’s the new departure lounge, which was opened for the first time on the 19th November this year.

The work won’t stop here either. There is a lot more to come and in total £40 million will be spent on revamping the airport in many different ways. It is clear that this has made an excellent start to the project though, and the new departure lounge has plenty of advantages for those passengers who will be using it.

The website that is dedicated to Edinburgh Airport gives you an idea of what to expect. The news release linked to a video on YouTube, which shows a virtual reality style insight into the finished lounge. It is much brighter and airier than the old lounge, and it has lots of different areas to look at, including shopping units, places to eat and plenty of seating. This is in fact one of the main areas of improvement in the lounge – with 450 more seats than it had before, you can see there is a much better chance of resting your legs now than there was before.

You can also enjoy a better view of the runway, since there is a viewing point which takes full advantage of large windows to give you something to watch while you wait for your own flight. A lot of thought has clearly gone into this development, and if the rest of the improvements follow the same line there should be plenty more to look forward to.

The managing director of the airport called the new lounge “fantastic”. Gordon Dewar also stated that “it is right to invest now in expanding the terminal building and improve facilities.” He is probably right in this respect, since the airport is predicted to cope with around 13 million passengers every year by the time we reach 2013.

The new facilities have certainly been thought about in detail and there is plenty to please those who use the airport a lot. We shall watch with interest to see how the next phase of the airport improvement scheme goes ahead. And of course we shall report back on it as and when more information becomes available.

For now at least, the airport will garner fresh headlines from the apparent success of the new departure lounge.
