If a holiday in Florida sounds like a great idea and you live near Edinburgh Airport, you will be able to fly straight there from summer 2010. That is when the route will begin to be offered from the airline Flyglobespan.
The fact that this is also a direct route will be good news for all those who fancy a spot of sunshine in the Sunshine State of America. Florida has plenty to offer both to individuals and to families, with plenty of destinations and cities to visit within Florida itself.
A few years ago Glasgow Airport started offering a similar service, and the success of that attempt to connect Scotland with Florida has led to the introduction of this new service from Edinburgh. The flights don’t appear to be offered all year round though. Instead they will cover the most attractive period of the summer holiday season, from the middle of June to the middle of October. It’s worth keeping an eye on these times just in case any changes are made at the last minute.
In addition to this the flight will be in service on just one day a week – a Sunday. But despite the limitations many people are likely to find the new service a real boon. It certainly extends the number and type of holidays you can take directly from Edinburgh Airport. And the fact that no changes are required on this direct flight is another good selling point for it.
Edinburgh Airport has been quick to point out the good news that it is adding new flights and routes despite the hardships caused by the recession. Recessions hit airlines and airports particularly hard because people find other ways of travelling and perhaps even cancel foreign holiday ideas and plans. But the fact that Edinburgh Airport is pressing ahead with what looks to be a popular new service bodes well for the future of the airport.
It will be interesting to see how the route is received when it does finally get underway next June. There has been enough advance notice to build up plenty of advance bookings for the flight, and with business class also on offer here there is every reason to assume that it will be a big success.
Clearly the many attractions of Florida will also help make sure the airline has plenty of fully booked weekly flights to the new destination. There cannot be many other places in America that offer the sheer range and depth of attractions that Florida does. It should be a popular offering for families with younger children, and it opens up the chance to go to Disney World for plenty of people living in and around the Scottish city.
Needless to say, those in charge at the airline Flyglobespan were just as excited about the new offering as those at Edinburgh Airport themselves were. This is a big coup for both – as well as for the customers – and one that should indeed be celebrated.
