If all that gives you a taste for the more unsavoury past that Edinburgh has, you can also head for the Edinburgh Dungeon. A strong stomach is required, but along with having a great day out you will also find out a lot more about the history of the royal city.

Going shopping in Edinburgh

Not only does the city offer you plenty of historical places to visit, you can also indulge in some very modern shopping as well. Princes Street is the main street to visit, and while shops line one side of the street the other is taken up by the Princes Street Gardens. Just beyond those is the majestic sight of Edinburgh Castle itself.

There is also the Princes Mall Shopping Centre, which is towards the end of the street by Waverley Bridge. And as if that wasn’t enough to tempt you, there is the St James Shopping Centre as well.
